Thoughts of the Day - Throwback Thursday, November 18, 2010.

I know, I know. It's been forever since I've posted an entry, but I promise I will make it up to you with my sharp wit and biting humor (not really, but I had to throw you a bone so you would keep reading, right?). Anyway, I was browsing Youtube earlier, catching up on movie trailers (since I don't actually have the money to go to a real theater to watch movies) when I came across this modern film adaptation of The Beauty and the Beast called Beastly. In short, great concept (The Beauty and the Beast just happens to be my favorite Disney movie in the history of Disney animation), but I don't know how I feel about Mary-Kate Olsen playing a teenage witch (I mean, really...?). However, I digress. The reason why I am rambling on about this movie that I will in all likelihood never see is because the song playing at the end of the trailer struck a very strong chord within my subconscious memory. A soothing, ethereal voice calling, "I need you so much closer...." caused my ears to perk up (not really though cuz they're pretty stationary) and I immediately googled the lyric. I kicked myself 0.11 seconds later to discover that they came from Death Cab for Cutie's album title track, "Transatlanticism". I should have known this. But more importantly, I realized that I haven't listened to this album (and all Death Cab songs, for that matter) since HIGH SCHOOL. And what for? Because they went mainstream after Plans? Or maybe because "I Will Possess Your Heart" sounded like a creepy stalker song? Or possibly because Chris Walla was a fantastic producer for Tegan & Sara and I thought his talent and efforts were so much more valuable in their projects? I don't know. It's probably a multitude of reasons which put a wedge between my affections and this once-great indie band. Though, the truth is, I miss them. So after this absurdly lengthy introduction, I present this week's Throwback Thursday song -- "Transatlanticism" by Death Cab for Cutie. Enjoy.

I need you so much closer,

IreneJK
